Individual grandfathered members enrolled in Anthem Blue Cross Life & Health Insurance Company (CDI regulated) policies at least one day in September of 2016 will be receiving a refund as a result of funds left over from a 2013 settlement of a class action lawsuit (Kreuzhage v. Anthem). This includes the majority of the grandfathered members. Members on Affordable Care Act (ACA) On and Off Exchange plans, and grandfathered members on Anthem Blue Cross (DMHC regulated) plans are not included.
Kaiser Releases 2017 Individual and Family Health Plan Information
Kaiser Permanente has released information pertaining to their individual and family health plans for 2017. Most of Kaiser’s health plans are available through Covered California and are eligible for the monthly tax credit subsidy. These standard benefit designs are also offered off-exchange, in addition to several non-standard benefit design plans only offered direct through Kaiser.
Blue Shield to automatically enroll members in Obamacare plans
Blue Shield of California has sent notices to 2,062 consumers of their grandfathered health plans notifying them they will be automatically enrolled in Obamacare plans for 2017. Blue Shield will no longer be offering 17 of their grandfathered individual and family plans in 2017. Blue Shield stated that the grandfathered plans are being withdrawn from the market place due to low enrollment.
Rate reduction for Anthem Blue Cross IFP
Effective July 1, 2016, Anthem will implement an average rate reduction of 3.63%* for existing business on all Anthem Blue Cross Life and Health Insurance Company (CDI) grandfathered medical plans with an April 1, 2016 effective date. The new lower rates will be effective July 1, 2016 and forward; there will be no retroactive rate change. Click here for a copy of the Grandfathered Rate Sheet and sample member letter.
