DMHC Fines Blue Shield of California and Care 1st Health Plan $457,500 for Consumer Grievance Violations

The California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) has taken enforcement actions including a $322,500 fine against California Physicians’ Service (Blue Shield of California) and a $135,000 fine against Care 1st Health Plan for failing to identify, timely process, and resolve consumer grievances. The plans have also failed to fully and timely provide information to the Department during the investigation of these consumer complaints.

New California consumer health insurance complaint center

The California Department of Insurance (CDI) announced today that several portals are now available to assist consumers, insurers* and health care providers in communicating and interacting with the department through the complaint process.

Public Meeting on the Acquisition of Cigna by Anthem Blue Cross

The Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) invites you to a public meeting on the acquisition of Cigna by Anthem Blue Cross. Representatives from both plans will be present. The meeting will be held in Sacramento on March 4, 2016 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss DMHC’s jurisdiction and authority to oversee the transaction and to solicit public comment for DMHC’s consideration as it reviews the transaction. Public comment will be limited to 3 minutes. Comments may also be submitted to [email protected] until 5:00 p.m. on March 11, 2016.

Blue Cross, Blue Shield fined over bad doctor directories

The California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) announced today that it issued a $350,000 fine against Blue Shield of California (Blue Shield) and a $250,000 fine against Anthem Blue Cross (Anthem) for inaccurate provider directories.
