Blue Shield Adds Santa Barbara Sansum Clinic, Continuing Care For New Members

December 12, 2017 By Kevin Knauss Leave a Comment

Blue Shield of California

Blue Shield of California has signed an agreement to add Sansum Clinic in Santa Barbara to their Individual and Family Plan network for 2018. Effective January 1, 2018, Blue Shield will be the only healthcare carrier offering Individual and Family Plans through Covered California to those who live and work in Santa Barbara County. Although we are the only provider, we still offer a wide range of plans both on- and off-exchange for your customers to choose from. This is especially important if your clients were affected by the Anthem Blue Cross withdrawal as they will have access to Sansum Clinics with the Blue Shield PPO network in 2018.

Sansum Clinic In-Network With Blue Shield 2018

With the exit of Anthem Blue Cross in many regions of California, Blue Shield is working to make the transition for consumers who have enrolled in one of their health plans. They have released a bulletin about continuing care under a former health plan and transferring prescriptions to the new Blue Shield health plan.

Continuity of Care, Prescription Drug Transfer

New Blue Shield plan members who were receiving care for certain health challenges can call the number on the back of their Blue Shield member ID card for assistance with transferring to new providers if necessary. The health conditions are:

  • Asthma
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Diabetes
  • Heart-related conditions
  • Prenatal care

For new plan member taking prescription drug medications, Blue Shield recommends taking your new member ID card to your pharmacist so the pharmacy can update your records. You should also check to make sure your current pharmacy is a preferred in-network pharmacy with Blue Shield. Find a Network Pharmacy
