A Journey Toward Health & Hope: Your Handbook for Recovery After a Suicide Attempt can now be ordered and downloaded from the SAMHSA Store. This new booklet is designed to help people who have attempted suicide take their first steps toward healing and recovery. Tools and stories in the booklet come from first-hand experiences of individuals who have survived a suicide attempt and their supporters. It is the hope of the writers that their personal knowledge about the challenges of suicide attempts and the steps to successfully recover will help readers learn they are not alone, how to develop hope, and most importantly, how to stay safe in challenging times.

Aetna Medical Loss Ratio amount for 2014 totals $15 million

Covered California clarifies Medicare questions for individuals

If you are enrolled in Medicare, you do not need to do anything with Covered California. If you have Medicare you are covered. No matter how you receive your Medicare benefits, whether through Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan, you will have the same benefits and security you have now. You will receive new benefits, such as more preventive services and increased savings on brand-name drugs.

Health Net partners with mental health website

Health Net has partnered with the online mental health website myStrength to offer support and inspiration for members who may be experiences mental health challenges in their lives. From the flyer introducing the partnership, myStrength is meant to address certain conditions such as anxiety, depression and struggles with substance abuse.

Anthem Blue Cross dropping coverage for certain prescription compounded drugs

Starting November 4, 2015, Anthem’s prescription drug plans will no longer pay for certain compound drugs that contain ingredients not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A compound drug is a customized medication prepared by a pharmacist for a specific person. Health plans may ask for your Social Security number

Your health insurance company may request that you provide them with the social security numbers for you, your spouse and your children covered by your policy. This is because the Affordable Care Act requires every provider of minimum essential coverage to report that coverage by filing an information return with the IRS and furnishing a statement to covered individuals. The information is used by the IRS to administer – and individuals to show compliance with – the health care law.

Anthem Blue Cross announces new physical therapy collaboration

Starting November 1, 2015*, OrthoNet will handle the management of both in-network and out-of-network outpatient physical therapy and occupational therapy services [in California].
