Due to very high demand for health insurance through Covered California, the deadline to enroll for coverage starting January 1 will be extended through 11:59 pm on December 17 to accommodate the surge in interest.
Foster Youth, Pregnancy, Medi-Cal updates to Covered California online enrollment
Covered California has updated their online application for 2016 open enrollment to automatically determine the eligibility of former foster youth and pregnancy coverage for Medi-Cal programs. In previous online versions the applicant was directed to the respective program for more information and final eligibility determination. In many situations the new Covered California enrollment website will help place the individual directly into the program they are eligible for.
2016 changes to Covered California small group plans
Small employer group plans acquired through Covered California Small Business program will see benefit and coverage changes consistent with changes implemented for individual and family plans in 2016. Covered California has released a spread sheet comparing the 2015 benefit level to the new 2016 benefits by coverage type. The most significant changes will occur on Bronze level plans where coinsurance is rising from 30% to 100% after the deductible for many covered benefits. In addition, Kaiser and Health Net will be discontinuing their Silver 70 H.S.A. plans.
Maps of subsidy eligible neighborhoods created by Covered California
These maps identify targeted areas of remaining uninsured or privately insured consumers, representing Covered California subsidy-eligible target populations. In addition, the maps identify locations of Covered California Agents and Community Partner Storefronts, Navigator Grant Program Entities, Certified Application Entities, Certified Insurance Agents, and Community Outreach Network Partners.
Voter registration by Covered California Certified Insurance Agents
Under federal and state law, Certified Insurance Agents are required to offer consumers assistance with voter registration. You are required to complete the Voter Registration training before November 1, 2015 and electronically sign the Certificate of Completion, included with the DocuSign® materials, no later than November 15, 2015 to avoid the risk of termination. African-American community to get special attention from Covered California
Covered California officials kicked off a new marketing and outreach campaign to increase African-American enrollments in the state’s health coverage program. The campaign focuses on informing African-Americans about the affordability of quality health insurance, and the exchange will place particular emphasis on specific geographic areas across the state where higher numbers of uninsured and subsidy-eligible African-Americans live, work, play and pray.
Ranking Covered California 2016 health plans by premium
California has put together a high level overview of the health plans being offered in each of the nineteen regions in the state. Each region has two quick fact pages which gives information on rates, plans ranked by premium cost, and regional hospitals in-network.
2016 health plan changes presentation from Covered California
Covered California hosted a webinar for Certified Insurance Agents and Certified Enrollment Counselors on some of the significant changes to their individual and family plan standard benefit design for 2016. Covered California releases results of consumer survey
Based on the survey results, as well as a review of research from a wide range of other sources (including those who have enrolled), Covered California has refined its comprehensive outreach campaign aimed at reaching the uninsured in their communities, through Navigator grants to community organizations; support for more than 18,000 Certified Insurance Agents; and promotion of storefronts where consumers can get free, confidential help enrolling.
Covered California melts down during renewal period
As Covered California began to allow consumers to renew their health insurance for 2016 the online enrollment system has ceased to operate. They issued an Agent Alert on Thursday at 2:45pm.
