Pregnancy confusion with Covered California enrollments

Health Net

Pregnancy Coverage for Covered California Members

Health Net recently notified brokers that Covered California is experiencing a system issue in their Application for Coverage process.

What this means for Health Net members
When a woman completes an Application for Coverage with Covered California and checks the box to indicate she is pregnant, she should be given the option to stay on a Covered California plan. Instead, the system is moving some women in low-income ranges to Medi-Cal. [Potentially terminating their Health Net individual and family plan.]

What you need to know
  • The California Healthcare Eligibility, Enrollment and Retention System (CalHEERS) is notifying affected members by letter as part of their customary Medi-Cal transition process.
  • When an affected member calls into our Customer Service center, we are advising them to contact Covered California to be re-instated to their prior Covered California plan.
  • Covered California and the Department of Healthcare Services are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. They are targeting a time frame between September and October 2016 for resolution.
If you are affected, please contact Covered California directly to have prior coverage re-instated.
