Covered California

Deadline Extended through December 17!

Due to very high demand for health insurance through Covered California, the deadline to enroll for coverage starting January 1 will be extended through 11:59 pm on December 17 to accommodate the surge in interest.

Spread the word! The Agent Service Center will be open until 8:00 pm PST today to help agents get help with last minute applications. Agents can contact the Agent Service Center via phone at (877) 453-9198.

Covered California’s Consumer Service Center for the Individual Marketplace will be open until 10:00pm PST today so that agents and consumers can get help with any last minute applications. The Consumer Service Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on December 16 and 17. Contact the Consumer Hotline at (800) 300-1506.

“The spike in interest we are seeing in the last few days tells us there is continued demand for quality, affordable coverage,” said Executive Director Peter V. Lee. “We have already enrolled more consumers this year for January 1 coverage than we did last year.”

Covered California has heard from many certified agents, that they are still processing thousands of applications and appreciate the additional time to ensure consumers receive coverage for all of 2016.

“We want to make sure everyone calling for coverage gets the help they need,” Lee said.

Covered California Certified Insurance Agents,

As we are in the thick of things to work to enroll consumers for coverage beginning January 1, I wanted to take a quick moment to thank all of you – especially those on the “front lines” working directly with consumers – providing application assistance and reviewing plan options – helping thousands of consumers get covered.

The surge of interest started last week – when tens of thousands of people called our service center and went to insurance agents’ offices – including more than 29,000 callers on Friday alone. We expect today to be one of our busiest days ever which is one of the reasons we extended the deadline. While we are all working hard, I want to you to know that the work is paying off. More than 141,000 consumers have newly signed up so far to have their health care coverage start on Jan. 1. Those are real people, getting real protection, thanks to the work being done in our service centers, community groups, navigators, insurance agent offices, and storefronts across the state. Thank you for everything that you do helping build healthier communities and more just California.
